Last night Weston played Lowell at Lowell. You know the rink that seems to always have the ice tilted in the wrong direction. I have not asked our stats man, but I cannot remember a game we have won in that building, well before last nights game that is. The other thing that strikes me about that rink is how warm it is. Although Weston won 2:1 they were not hot and certainly did not play their best game. The hockey gods were with us, with a number of shots ringing out against the post, ending back in play versus in the back of the net. Although a few post clangers got by Sam he had another amazing game, which has become the standard. Check out this picture of a stop made in heavy traffic. Bart’s picture sums up all three periods!
Weston Hockey Fans
Thursday the guys played Dracut away. A game you can always count on for one sided calls by the referees. The referees lived up to the standard and the guys stepped up taking on Dracut right from the first whistle. The game ended 3:1 Weston with Weston in the lead from the end of the first. Dracut never once backed down out shooting Weston by a solid factor. Sam played what I called a Joe Dell game. Sam and the rest of the team played nothing short of a fantastic game of hockey and I do not know about the rest of the fans but I am sticking with my season opening prediction of us winning half our games. Joey started Weston off with a behind the back, behind the net shot that rolled up and over the goalie and found the red line. This I guess is why they say “throw the puck at the net”. Chase followed with a back hand one timer off a rebound. I guess this is why they say “go to the net”. Before the third Dracut had the count at 2:1 Weston and it was clear the next team to score would win. The third had Weston pinned in their end of the ice with Sam taking shots from every angle. The team stood firm and continued to battle and near the end John directed one from our end into a open net putting the finishing touches on a great game.
